If you guys have followed my blog for any amount of time, you probably know I have an obsession with facial sprays. Usually mineral waters, as my skin easily gets red and irritated, but I also love the concept of a setting spray to set my makeup before a long day. Smashbox has once again upped their primer game, and launched a water that promises to prime, set and refresh. I have been using this product for awhile now, and I am finally ready to give my verdict!
First off, the details. You get 116ml of this Alcohol, Oil and Silicone free spray for $37 CAD. This product is packed with electrolytes, and just like Gatorade after a night out drinking with your girlfriends, this will get you hydrated, and feeling more radiant. It is also the answer to people's gripes with silicone-y feeling primers. Two simple mists of this will prime the skin for makeup, and two more sprays as the last step of your skincare regime will lock everything in for the day. I don't notice my makeup fading throughout the day when I use this, but I will caution that over usage throughout the day, will result in an overly shiny face. I find this water super soothing, and now recommend it to my clients with very sensitive skin. If you're someone that likes a boost mid-day, keep this in your refrigerator and thank me later.
I do find from time to time that the pump of the bottle is a bit touchy, sometimes resulting in a slightly aggressive spray to the face, but I have never moved or smudged my makeup. (And we all know I am an overuser. I will spray this 4-6 times sometimes, but really two is all you need!)
It applies the sheerest primer possible to the skin, and let's you feel like your skin is able to breathe and move throughout the day. I also have a very dry skin, so to find a setting spray that doesn't make my skin feel like I just sprayed hairspray on my face is a breath of fresh air. As with all of the products from Smashbox, they are tested under the bright lights, and the heat of a photography studio.
I can't say how this would work for someone with an oily skin type, but for my dry skin, this has been amazing, and I will definitely be recommending this to people!
Don't be scared of setting sprays. 9 times out of 10 when I pull a spray out of my kit to use on someone who has a full face of freshly applied makep on, they go for my wrists and protest that they don't want to ruin their makeup. Trust me when I say that this will simply create a seal over your makeup, and make it last throughout the day. Two sprays is all you need! When you feel how refreshing and soothing this feels, you will want to apply way too much, but try to refrain, and enjoy your long lasting makeup look!
I am really looking forward to one day going to the Smashbox Studios to see their new location. Maybe when I go on the Ellen show to meet Clint Eastwood I can swing by!
