Clarins (to my knowledge) has only launched a large palette once. Bloggers who were lucky enough to get their hands on it rave about it, and of course it was limited edition. When I saw these two palettes, even though they were slightly smaller, I kept my thoughts positive that my craving for a Clarins palette would be satisfied. Sadly, I am still hoping they get it right someday because these just didn't do it for me. I'll explain of course, here are the pictures. The day palette is first, and the night palette follows.
Right off the bat, before I even opened these palettes, I was disappointed with the elastic closure. Clarins is a prestige brand, and I feel like they should have gone with something more stable, and luxurious. I can't help but think of my old notebooks when I have to use the elastic to hold the palette closed. I do appreciate the color difference between the two, it's definitely easy to know which one is which. Below are the swatches of the product.
I ran into a few issues with these shadows. The first issue wasn't the shadow, but more the eyeshadow base. It's way too dark for my complextion, and instead of brightening my eye area, it makes my eyes look even more deep set. If you are more of a medium skin tone, you wouldn't have this issue! The primer itself is fantastic, I just wish they would release a lighter shade!
The day palette underwhelmed me. The first three shades barely show up (which hardly ever happens on my super fair skin) and the other two shadows just didn't wow me. Both of these palettes have extreme fall out, so be prepared to do your eyes first, and cleanse the cheeks before applying your face makeup.
I was more attracted to the night palette, but everytime I used this product, I needed to pull in another shadow for my highlight. I feel like a palette should have everything you need for a complete look, and this one doesn't. The last issue I found with these shadows was when blended out, all of the colors really mesh together and tend to look like one similar shade all over. I have had this issue with other shadows in the past, but never with Clarins. I was disappointed in these palettes to say the least. In the same collection they launched a few other products... New lipstick shades, new brow pencils, two new matte eyeshadows. Everything else is beautiful. But I would say save your money on the palettes. After all, the holiday makeup will be here before we know it and who doesn't love holiday sets!?
