Hello Everyone, Happy New Year! I hope you all had a firework filled end to 2015. Hard to believe that 2016 is here already, but I am ready to take it by the horns, and rule like a boss! Being that it is now January 1st, today marks the official start of my Cosmetic Hiatus of 2016. I spoke about this briefly in my last YouTube video (check it out here if you missed it! youtu.be/uzpBIPY1kKg )
Now before you all freak out, and call me crazy for this idea, let me explain a little bit. Number one, I work in the Cosmetic Industry full time, and I am blessed enough to have a lot of makeup sent my way from people and companies to try. There will still be a steady flow of products coming my way throughout the year. I also have a very large makeup collection, of things I need to use more often, but also brand new items that haven't been used yet. I will continue to do reviews, favorites/unfavorites throughout the year! As with any large life change, there has to be exceptions, and I want to let you guys know what they are, and also have a written history of the rules for myself to reference back to during the hard times that are definitely going to come this year. Bullet Point being my favorite, lets get into it!
There will be absolutely no cosmetic purchases in the year of 2016, with exception of:
1.) Freelance Kit Purchases (These items are for my professional kit, which constantly needs restocking)
2.) Staple products such as: Bioderma, Elnett Hairspray, Maybelline Fit Me Concealer, Skin Fix Daily Lotion (or CeraVe Moisturizing Cream) Sunscreen, and Shampoo/Conditioning products are excluded from the hiatus, as these are products I use exclusively, and cannot be without them.
3.) The two VIB Rouge sales in April and November are fair game. This will be two opportunities for me to get items I have been dying to try at a discounted rate. Also, the spend $50.00 get $25.00 off coupon given in December from Sephora will be used as well.
4.) Any gift cards, money, or Optimum points given to me throughout the year may be used towards the purchase of cosmetics. As long as I myself am not spending any money, no problem.
If at any point in the first six months, I decide this hiatus is simply too much, at the six month mark, this will change from a full on hiatus, to a $50.00 monthly spending limit.
This is going to be a challenge for me, I am not naïve to just how much money I spend in a year on cosmetic products. I am looking forward to the last day of 2016, where I can have a look at my savings and finances, and (hopefully) feel the satisfaction from this journey!
I will be updating you guys sporadically on my progress, and how I am feeling! Day 1 so far is not bad, I am about 14 hours in, and I feel confident. There have already been a few new products launched (looking at you Smashbox Primer Oil) that have sparked my interest, but all I can do is go to my stash of unopened product, crack a seal and hope that satisfies my craving!
One of my favorite books, The Frugalista Files by Natalie P. McNeal was pulled off my bookshelf today, and I will be keeping that close. Its a great book for any woman that is trying to stop buying ridiculous things that they don't need, in order to save some money for the future! She inspires me a lot and I always feel recharged after reading a chapter or two.
So that's all for today folks. Day 1 and going strong! I encourage you if you are someone who spends way too much on something (whether it be makeup, clothing, food) to join me on this! Even if you want to go a month or two, we can support each other through it! This is also my official cry to all of my girlfriends, to pass along the products that don't work for you, in hopes that they will for me!
What do you guys think? Any advice for me?
Some blog posts might seem ridiculous. This is a safe environment for Beauty Junkies! If you bought something just because of the packaging, or you find yourself procrastinating by swatching, this is the place for you.
