I am finally ready to talk about this product. I really wanted to make sure that I was familiar with them, and really put them to the test before giving my opinion. This trio of sticks retails for $52.00 CAD, and comes with a highlighting stick, a bronzing stick, and a contour stick. The texture of these are amazingly smooth, and they truly are super easy to work with. Almost too easy... But I'll explain that in a minute!
This trio has so many pros. I love the thin shape of the pencils, that make it so easy to carve out cheekbones, and they ensure that you do not over place the product. They blend out super easily, and the contour shade is perfect. A lot of people will opt to use a concealer stick or a foundation for their contour, but for me personally, those always end up looking too warm on my super fair skin. The cool tone of the contour stick is perfect. I also love the chart that comes in this kit, it would be great for someone new to contouring, and teaches the most flattering way to contour your face. Not everyone needs to contour like Kim Kardashian, it's all about your personal face shape!
Along with the pros, there are some cons to this as well. These do not last all day on my skin, unless I take all measures to make my makeup last. I'm taking primer, heavy setting powders, and a setting spray. The first time I used these, they lasted for about 5 hours on my skin. I wasn't impressed. When I added in all the extra steps, the product stuck around all day, so keep that in mind. I don't contour on a daily basis, usually just for special occasions, so this wasn't a deal breaker for me. The one thing that disappointed me was the highlight stick. Like I said before, my skin is quite light (NC20-ish) and this highlight stick is more of a concealer for me. On medium skin tones it would be beautiful, but if you are fair like me, chances are that one will be a disappointment. I have purchased these sticks for my freelance kit, as I think they will be great for brides. I will be swapping out the highlight stick for something more brightening when needed.
As for how I apply these, I sculpt out my face with the contour shade. (Cheeks, sides of my face, and down the bridge of my nose to make it look slimmer!) the bronze color goes where the sun would naturally hit me, just enough to warm up the skin, and the highlight goes on all high points of my face, and the sides of my mouth! I then spray my face with Fix Plus from MAC or Fix Plus from Clarins, and blend with my Beauty Blender. I start with the highlight, then the contour, then the bronze shade. Make sure you blend out the highlight first if using a blending sponge, as you don't want to transfer your darker colors into the highlighted areas.
